Longbridge Deverill Nursing Home

Care home

Development: Completed 2013 Location: Longbridge Deverill, Warminster Client: Equality Care Limited

The existing listed former vicarage is a Victorian house with original period features. The house had previously been converted into a Care Home in the mid 1980’s and extended numerous times over the intervening years, and many of these additions were no longer fit for purpose. Our client wanted a new, dedicated Nursing Care facility to be designed within the grounds which would also allow for the future conversion of the Grade II Listed property into Extra Care Accommodation.

In consideration of this sensitive site, various options for building within the grounds of the Grade II listed former Vicarage were considered and the upper levels of the walled garden was chosen, having previously been used as a swimming pool. A split-level design was developed to respond to the steeply sloping site.

There were initial concerns from the Planning Officers over the scale of the development. The new building had to sit below the level of the chimney stacks to the listed house, to retain the prominence of the original house. Through the introduction of green sedum flat roofs, we were able to meet this constraint and sympathise with a contemporary design for the new building, with the top floor also set back to minimise the impact of the scheme from long distance views into the site.

The home responds well to its surroundings and the extensive ornate gardens. Woodland walks and both a formal and sensory garden all contribute to the residents’ wellbeing. Longbridge Deverill House and Nursing Home provides residential, dementia and nursing care, across 2 buildings on the same site. Residential care is provided in the original house where rooms are large and enjoy the period house environment.

The luxury nursing and dementia home is built to the highest standards with a focus on interior design to assist with the delivery of high-quality care. Each bedroom is spacious with en-suite wet rooms, picture windows capturing the wonderful views, private patios on the ground floor and the latest falls management technology.

Facilities within the new building include hydrotherapy pool and Jacuzzi, library, therapy rooms and hair dressing salon. This dementia home has a specially designed safe sensory garden.
