60 bedroom care home
Located just outside the centre of Watlington and overlooking the Chiltern hills in Oxfordshire, the site formerly occupied by a cottage hospital was redeveloped to provide a new care home for Sanctuary Care.
As part of the Planning discussions, the care home closely replicates the style and appearance of the of the building it replaced, using a similar palette of materials consisting of a combination of red clay bricks and flint panels, under a natural slate roof. Emphasis was placed on the quality of materials and detailing used in the design and construction of the home.
Set in substantial mature gardens and accessed along a private drive, the 60-bedroom home is laid out over part two, and part three floors. All residents have access to the variety of recreational and therapeutic activities available in the numerous communal areas of the home, as well as the use of the dementia friendly formal and informal garden areas.
In 2015 the client enhanced the home with a large new orangery and a revamp of the landscaping and external gardens.
